Yet again, the morning news was full of information about all the foreclosures going on now, but I have not heard much on the news about alternative forms of refinancing, like an FHA mortgage refinance that could help some of these families avoid foreclosure, and stay in their homes. There is such a glut of homes on the market right now from the foreclosure activity, but I wonder how much of it could have been avoided if these people  had used an FHA secure mortgage in the first place to lock in a lower interest rate for 30 years, instead of the crazy mortgage vehicles that lenders thought up during the heyday of the market a few years ago. If people can get an FHA secure rate reduction plan, they are so much better off because their payments will be fixed for 30 years, instead of rising constantly with loan resets. I wish that I could come up with a good news story about FHA refinancing that the networks could broadcast, to air a few public service announcements about the benefits of going with an FHA refinance instead of losing their homes.
